Learning Objectives

By the end of the day, attendees will:

1. Know the results of the WINTIP Wisconsin Clinicians Survey regarding the treatment of nicotine dependence, as well as other relevant research.

2. Understand why tobacco presents the most lethal threat to successful recovery from all other substance dependence and co-occurring disorders, and how tobacco contributes to relapse.

3. Be aware of the Alcohol and Drug Services Tobacco Integration Story – St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Wis.

4. Know the history and current status of tobacco integration into AODA services in the USA.

5. Understand the issues and the process for successful tobacco integration and have a model for integrating evidence-based nicotine-dependence treatment into AODA treatment programs and facilities.

6. Know how to obtain resources for continuing education and training on tobacco and nicotine dependence.

7. Understand that AODA counselors possess the skills and experience to successfully deliver nicotine dependence treatment, and how to nurture an infrastructure that encourages and supports this treatment.
