How the Quit Line Works
The Quit Line offers a complete menu of cessation services.

Quit Line counselors, the most experienced in the nation, conduct a 20-40 minute initial assessment of each caller who is ready to make a quit attempt. They provide tips on quitting, including information about stop smoking pharmacotherapies. They can help the caller determine what cessation services their health insurance plan covers. Counselors can also refer smokers to local resources.

Callers can finish with their first call, or request a program in which a Quit Line counselor initiates one, two or four future calls. An independent study by Decision Data, Inc. shows quit rates increase with more calls. The Quit Line also sends callers a free quit kit in the mail. More
