Laurie
has been working hard to help people quit smoking for about four
years. Before coming to UW-CTRI, she had diverse experiences that
included working with tribal members, managing care for people
with developmental disabilities and working as a regional planner
and program consultant for a program serving elderly people.
Laurie collaborates
with health systems, clinics and local coalitions to make tobacco
treatment a standard part of health care in north-central Wisconsin.
She has spear-headed the distribution of free nicotine patches
to low-income smokers and has partnered with health insurers to
expand coverage of medications that help smokers quit. She also
provides training to students and professionals in the dental
hygene profession.
