Kristine Hayden,
Western Regional Outreach Specialist located in Eau Claire, travels
to clinics, worksites and hospitals and meets with coalitions, health
departments and healthcare professionals in Western Wisconsin to promote
quit smoking resources. These include the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line,
a free telephone counseling service available across the state, and
the smoking cessation recommendations in the U.S. Public Health Service
Clinical Practice Guideline: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence. Hayden
works with large systems such as the Marshfield Clinic System, Gundersen
Lutheran, and Franciscan Skemp Mayo Health System and small, rural clinics
and hospitals.

Hayden
has a strong interest in tobacco treatment in hospital systems
as well as clinical settings. She helped develop the hospital
tobacco cessation toolkit, Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence
in Hospitalized Smokers and worked with the Wisconsin Hospital
Association to implement outreach efforts to hospitals.
Hayden also
worked with the La Crosse County Health Department and the Hmong
Mutual Assistance Association to help Hmong smokers quit through
the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line Fax to Quit Program. Hayden has
also worked with healthcare systems to assist them in implementing
and sustaining First Breath, a program to reduce smoking among
pregnant women.
