Roger Dier, MS
Regional Outreach Specialist for Northeast Wisconsin

Contact Roger Dier

Roger Dier is the UW-CTRI Outreach Specialist for the 17-county northeastern region; his office is in Oshkosh. Dier uses his excellent speaking and networking skills to promote tobacco treatment and prevention to healthcare providers and systems.

In 2008, Dier was the first-ever recipient of the Amy Hertz Advocacy Award at the National Summit on Spit and Smokeless Tobacco. The award, named after the Deputy Attorney General for the State of California, honors an individual or organization exemplifying outstanding advocacy and education in smokeless-tobacco prevention and control.

Dier has assisted countless healthcare organizations with improving their standard of care for treating patients who smoke or chew tobacco. He has worked closely with Aurora Health Care, Prevea Clinics, Holy Family Memorial Hospitals and clinics in the Community Memorial Hospital system.

"The trend is unmistakable,” Dier said. “We’re freeing more people from the shackles of tobacco addiction every day. Today’s tobacco cessation interventions mean long-term health-care savings for Wisconsin taxpayers. More importantly, it means less heartbreak for the victims of tobacco dependence and their families.”

Roger Dier

Dier created Stopspitusa-talk, a national list serve dedicated to reducing and eliminating the harmful effects of spit tobacco through collaboration, education and advocacy.  Stopspitusa-talk serves 120 members from 28 states and Canada. Dier has also collaborated with state partners and coalition coordinators throughout the state to raise the profile of the dangers of spit tobacco in Wisconsin.

Dier graduated from Minnesota State-Mankato with a bachelor’s degree in English and earned his master’s degree in applied leadership for teaching and learning at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
