Roger
Dier, MS Roger Dier is the UW-CTRI Outreach Specialist for the 17-county northeastern region; his office is in Oshkosh. Dier uses his excellent speaking and networking skills to promote tobacco treatment and prevention to healthcare providers and systems. In 2008, Dier was the first-ever recipient of the Amy Hertz Advocacy Award at the National Summit on Spit and Smokeless Tobacco. The award, named after the Deputy Attorney General for the State of California, honors an individual or organization exemplifying outstanding advocacy and education in smokeless-tobacco prevention and control.
Dier created Stopspitusa-talk, a national list serve dedicated to reducing and eliminating the harmful effects of spit tobacco through collaboration, education and advocacy. Stopspitusa-talk serves 120 members from 28 states and Canada. Dier has also collaborated with state partners and coalition coordinators throughout the state to raise the profile of the dangers of spit tobacco in Wisconsin. Dier graduated from Minnesota State-Mankato with a bachelor’s degree in English and earned his master’s degree in applied leadership for teaching and learning at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
