Health Professionals Learn How to Help Tobacco Users Quit

More than 50 area health professionals are better equipped to help patients quit smoking after a recent workshop on motivational interviewing in Wausau. The all-day event featured two presenters from the Mayo Clinic, Sheila Stevens and

Susan Glaeser, who discussed
how motivational interviewing applies to smoking cessation. Attendees learned the same strategies used by the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line to encourage smokers to quit. The workshop was sponsored by UW-CTRI, the UW Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Northern Wisconsin Division of Public Health.
