Wisconsin Smokers' Health Study

The Wisconsin Smokers’ Health Study is a research study designed to help you quit smoking, to learn about your health and to help us better understand tobacco dependence and its treatment. The study is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

Due to high interest, this study is no longer accepting additional participants. However, to volunteer for a new quit-smoking study, click here.

Early Results Show Extremely High Quit Rates
Early data from the Wisconsin Smokers’ Health Study suggest that treatments provided in the study are producing some of the highest quit rates ever achieved.

What the study does
The study will compare various FDA-approved stop smoking medications and combinations of medications. This will help us determine which treatments work best for different individuals.
We will also learn about the long term effects of attempting to quit smoking. This examines effects on physical and mental health as well as lifestyle and overall quality of life for people quitting and not quitting smoking.
